Gamma Chi Sigma Chapter was organized in Wichita, Kansas on June 17, 1967 in the home of Soror Doris Smith by the Regional Director, Soror Annie Lawrence. The charter members are: Mary Ellen Adams, Roola E. Kelly, Lorrayne J. King, Warlene Reed, Doris Smith and Clester Woods.
Lorrayne King, a Supervisor at St. Francis Hospital, brought the idea of starting a chapter in Wichita. After spending most of the summer in the company of other Sigma women throughout the city, interest began to grow.

This group of women consisted of school teachers, a Braille resource teacher, a piano instructor and a home economist. They strived to make the first chartered chapter in the state of Kansas upward and not downward for Greater Service, Character and Greater Progress.

Currently the chapter continues to carry on these goals throughout the Wichita community.
